Durham Lifting is proud to announce that the core range of Multisec Modular Spreader Beams has officially achieved DNV Type Approval, marking an important milestone for the Multisec brand and its continued growth across international offshore and heavy lifting markets.

Manufactured by Durham Lifting in the UK, the distinctive pink Multisec beams have been assessed against one of the lifting industry’s most demanding offshore standards, providing customers with greater confidence in the engineering, manufacturing quality and traceability behind every approved system.

Compliance with DNV-ST-0378

Issued by DNV at Høvik, Norway, the Type Approval confirms compliance with DNV-ST-0378: Offshore and Platform Lifting Appliances.

The approval process included detailed assessment of the Multisec range across critical engineering and manufacturing requirements, including structural design, global and local load analysis, material impact toughness, qualified welding procedures, manufacturing quality control and full component traceability.

DNV Type Approval provides independent confirmation that the approved Multisec range meets demanding international requirements for offshore lifting equipment.

This level of assessment supports the safe and consistent use of Multisec Modular Spreader Beams across demanding offshore, marine and heavy industrial lifting operations.

Approval across the core Multisec range

The approval covers the core Multisec Modular Spreader Beam range from the Multi-13 through to the Multi-250, providing Safe Working Load capacities from 13 tonnes to 250 tonnes.

Approved range Multi-13 to Multi-250
Capacity range 13t to 250t
Applicable standard DNV-ST-0378

The certification supports the installation and use of the approved systems on DNV-classed vessels and offshore units, helping customers meet project requirements across crane vessels, cable-lay and pipe-lay ships, drilling platforms, heavy-lift barges and floating production systems.

It also strengthens the suitability of the Multisec range for offshore wind, subsea construction, renewable energy installation, shipbuilding and complex heavy engineering projects where independently verified lifting equipment is often required.

“Achieving DNV Type Approval is a significant milestone for our team and a strong endorsement of the engineering behind the Multisec brand. This accreditation further strengthens our position in global markets and gives our customers even greater confidence when choosing our products.”

Supporting larger and more complex lifts

The achievement follows the DNV approval of two of the largest Multisec Modular Spreader Beams produced to date, including a 1,200-tonne system measuring 12.5 metres and a 2,000-tonne system spanning 18.5 metres.

These major systems demonstrate Durham Lifting’s ability to design, manufacture, test and document specialist lifting equipment for complex offshore and heavy engineering applications.

As lifting operations continue to increase in scale and complexity, Durham Lifting and Multisec remain focused on engineering innovation, manufacturing quality, safety and reliable performance.
