One of the World’s Largest C-Hooks for Offshore Wind.

Durham Lifting supported Multisec in the design, manufacture and testing of a groundbreaking 125-tonne C-Hook developed for the handling of large offshore wind monopile sections.

Durham Lifting and Multisec have completed the launch of one of the largest C-Hooks of its kind, designed and manufactured in Middlesbrough for the handling of major offshore wind monopile sections.

Developed for SeAH Wind, the specialist lifting system has been engineered to lift monopile cans and cones measuring up to 4.2 metres in length, 15.5 metres in diameter and weighing up to 125 tonnes.

Engineered for major monopile sections

The new C-Hook was developed to provide safe, controlled and flexible handling across a wide range of monopile can and cone sizes, including components with differing centres of gravity.

Unlike conventional C-Hooks that are generally designed to tilt in one direction, this system incorporates a dual gantry arrangement with motorised counterweights, enabling controlled rotation in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions.

The adjustable counterweight system allows the hook to accommodate components with changing dimensions and load distribution, providing greater flexibility during lifting and positioning operations.

The mechanical load path was also developed to bypass critical welds, helping to enhance structural integrity, long-term durability and confidence during demanding lifting operations.

Designed, manufactured and tested in Middlesbrough

Durham Lifting worked alongside Multisec throughout the project, providing engineering, manufacturing and testing support to ensure the finished system met the required standards for safety, performance and reliability.

The project demonstrates the specialist heavy lifting capability available within Teesside, from initial engineering and fabrication through to inspection, functional testing and final project documentation.

To mark the achievement, Durham Lifting and Multisec welcomed Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke to view the completed C-Hook and learn more about the engineering and manufacturing work behind the project.
