Avery H2 Horizontal Test Bed
Heavy-duty horizontal testing for demanding tensile, compression and destructive-test requirements, backed by one of Britannia Test House’s most distinctive pieces of engineering heritage.

The Avery H2 supports controlled horizontal testing with working loads of 1250Te in tension and 1200Te in compression. For destructive testing, the facility can support tests up to 1143 tonnes.
The existing test bed provides approximately 1.5m of stroke and a total bed length of around 16m, allowing a wide range of substantial components and assemblies to be arranged within the machine.

Durham Lifting’s existing archive records the Avery H2 as dating to 1926 and having been used in testing associated with the box girders for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Today it remains part of the working test capability at Britannia Test House.
